Abstract
Various fishing units are used by fishermen based in PPP Larangan, Tegal Regency. The dominant fishing units include: purse seine waring, payang and arad. The three fishing units certainly have different levels of friendliness. The objective this study was to determine the level of environmental friendliness in implementing sustainable fishing technology in Tegal Regency. The method used in this study is a case study. Data were obtained through interviews based on 9 criteria of the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries. The values obtained were tabulated and analyzed descriptively. The performance of fishing gear in CFP Larangan is dominated by Purse seine (76), payang (59) and arad (14). The results of interviews with 8 respondents for each fishing gear showed that the purse seine waring and payang fishing gear were intended to catch surface fish (peagis) and the apollo arad was intended to catch bottom fish (demersal). The main target fish for purse seine waring and payang are anchovies (javanese anchovies/rice anchovies) while for Apollo arad nets they are all demersal fish. Based on the level of environmental friendliness (FAO), an average value (score) of 92% and 94% was obtained for purse seine waring and payang so that both fishing gear are classified as very environmentally friendly fishing gear. Meanwhile, arad/apolo has a value (score) of 49% so that it is categorized as fishing gear that is not environmentally friendly and even tends to damage the environment.
