Authorship Criteria

Authorship Criteria

FOCUS: Jurnal of Law establishes authorship based on substantial intellectual contributions, meaningful involvement in the preparation of scholarly work, and accountability for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of research. This policy applies to all legal research manuscripts and conceptual review articles submitted for publication in FOCUS: Jurnal of Law.

The purpose of this authorship policy is to ensure that every individual listed as an author has made a verifiable academic contribution and receives appropriate recognition for their involvement in scholarly research and publication.

1. Authorship Requirements

Every individual listed as an author must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Make a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the research, formulation of legal research questions, collection and analysis of legal materials, or interpretation of data, legislation, court decisions, legal doctrines, or other scholarly sources.
  2. Participate actively in drafting the manuscript or critically revising its intellectual content, legal arguments, research analysis, and conclusions.
  3. Read, review, and approve the final version of the manuscript to be submitted and published.
  4. Accept responsibility for their scholarly contributions and cooperate in ensuring that any concerns regarding the accuracy, validity, originality, or integrity of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All individuals who meet these criteria must be listed as authors. Individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions must be given the opportunity to participate in drafting or revising the manuscript and approving its final version.

2. Author Contributions and Order of Authorship

The list and order of authors must be determined based on their intellectual contributions and agreed upon by all authors before the manuscript is submitted to FOCUS: Jurnal of Law.

Each manuscript should include an Author Contributions Statement that clearly and accurately describes the roles and responsibilities of each author.

Contributions may include research conceptualization, methodological development, collection and analysis of legal materials, interpretation of research findings, development of legal arguments, manuscript preparation, and critical review and revision of scholarly content.

Academic rank, supervisory status, institutional position, provision of funding, or general supervision alone does not automatically qualify an individual for authorship without a corresponding intellectual contribution that meets the authorship criteria.

Lecturers, students, researchers, academics, legal practitioners, and other contributors must be evaluated according to the same authorship principles and criteria.

3. Corresponding Author

The corresponding author is responsible for managing communication between all authors and the Editorial Board of FOCUS: Jurnal of Law throughout the submission, initial screening, peer-review, revision, acceptance, and publication processes.

The corresponding author must ensure that:

  1. All authors are aware of and agree to the submission of the manuscript to FOCUS: Jurnal of Law.
  2. The names, institutional affiliations, email addresses, and contribution details of all authors are accurately provided.
  3. All authors receive relevant information regarding editorial progress, revision requests, and publication decisions.
  4. All authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript before publication.
  5. Requests for clarification, corrections, or inquiries concerning the integrity of the article after publication are addressed in coordination with the relevant authors.
