Correction and Retraction

Correction and Retraction Policy

FOCUS: Jurnal of Law, published by the Faculty of Law, Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Cirebon, is committed to maintaining the integrity, accuracy, transparency, and completeness of the scholarly record for authors, researchers, and readers.

FOCUS: Jurnal of Law recognizes its responsibility to ensure the reliability and credibility of published scientific articles, particularly in the field of legal studies. Any changes to articles after online publication must be made transparently and in accordance with established publication ethics and editorial policies.

The journal places great importance on preserving the authenticity and integrity of published articles. This policy is developed with reference to internationally recognized best practices in scholarly publishing, particularly the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Correction (Erratum or Corrigendum)

A correction, including an Erratum or Corrigendum, is a formal notice issued to address errors, inaccuracies, or omissions identified in an article after publication.

Corrections may relate to factual information, research data, legal references, citations, author information, or other aspects of the article that require clarification without invalidating its overall findings and conclusions.

Authors who discover significant errors in their published articles are responsible for promptly notifying the Editorial Board of FOCUS: Jurnal of Law and providing a clear explanation of the necessary corrections.

The correction notice must describe the nature of the error, identify the information being corrected, and explain any potential effects on the interpretation or conclusions of the article.

The original published article will remain accessible through the journal's online platform. A correction notice will be published and linked to the original article to ensure transparency and maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

All correction notices will be made freely available to readers.

Retraction

A retraction is a formal notice indicating that a previously published article contains serious errors or ethical violations that substantially undermine the reliability, validity, or integrity of its findings.

FOCUS: Jurnal of Law may retract a published article under the following circumstances:

  1. There is clear evidence that the research findings are unreliable due to significant errors, data fabrication, falsification, or other forms of research misconduct.

  2. The article contains plagiarism, including substantial unauthorized use of another author's ideas, data, or published work.

  3. The findings have been previously published elsewhere without proper citation, authorization, disclosure, or academic justification.

  4. The article reports research conducted in violation of applicable ethical standards or legal requirements.

  5. The article contains serious inaccuracies, misleading interpretations, or other substantial deficiencies that compromise its scientific validity.

  6. The publication involves significant violations of authorship, copyright, or other recognized principles of publication ethics.

Retractions may be initiated by the authors, the Editorial Board, or the publisher when substantial evidence of errors or misconduct has been identified.

Before issuing a retraction, the Editorial Board will evaluate the available evidence and, where appropriate, provide the authors with an opportunity to respond to the allegations or concerns.

To preserve the transparency and integrity of the scholarly record, a retracted article will generally remain accessible on the journal's website but will be clearly identified as "Retracted."

A formal retraction notice will be published, made freely available to readers, and linked to the original article.

The retraction notice must clearly state the reasons for retraction, identify the parties responsible for the decision, and provide relevant information concerning the circumstances leading to the retraction.

If a retraction is issued without the agreement of all authors, this circumstance should be clearly stated in the notice.

In exceptional circumstances involving serious legal violations, privacy concerns, or other substantial legal risks, the Editorial Board and publisher may determine that partial redaction or removal of the article's content is necessary.

Whenever possible, the bibliographic information and publication record will be retained to ensure the transparency and integrity of the academic record.

Publisher's Note

A Publisher's Note is an official statement issued by the publisher to inform readers about corrections or modifications made to an article following its publication.

A Publisher's Note may be issued when typographical, technical, formatting, or production-related errors introduced during the publishing process affect the accuracy of the article's metadata or substantially interfere with readers' understanding of its content.

Such errors may include inaccuracies in article titles, author names, institutional affiliations, publication details, or other essential bibliographic information.

When significant production errors are identified, the publisher may issue a Publisher's Note and provide a corrected version of the article.

The corrected version must be clearly identified, and the date of correction should be recorded to maintain transparency.

Publisher's Notes will be made freely accessible to readers and, where appropriate, linked to the corrected article.

Minor typographical or formatting errors that do not affect the scientific content, bibliographic integrity, or interpretation of the article may be corrected at the discretion of the Editorial Board and publisher.

Article Replacement and Publication Record

FOCUS: Jurnal of Law recognizes the importance of maintaining an accurate and transparent record of all published articles.

When a published article requires substantial corrections, the Editorial Board will determine whether a formal correction notice, Publisher's Note, or retraction is the most appropriate action.

Any replacement of a published article with a corrected version must be carried out transparently, with appropriate documentation of the changes made and the date on which the corrections were implemented.

Corrections to previously published articles must not conceal the original publication history or mislead readers regarding the authenticity of the scholarly record.

Where appropriate, the original version or a record of the modifications will be retained to ensure accountability and transparency in the publication process.

FOCUS: Jurnal of Law is committed to applying correction and retraction procedures fairly, responsibly, and consistently in accordance with recognized standards of academic publishing.

For further guidance, authors and readers may refer to the COPE Retraction Guidelines.
