Artificial Intelligence Policy

Journal Mestro recognizes that generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools and large language models can support research and writing. This policy, informed by COPE's position on AI in publishing, sets out how such tools may be used.

For Authors

  • AI is not an author. AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors, because they cannot take responsibility for the work or approve the final manuscript.
  • Disclosure. Any use of generative AI beyond basic grammar and spelling correction must be disclosed in the Methods section or in an Acknowledgment, naming the tool, version, and purpose.
  • Responsibility. Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all content, including text, code, and references produced with AI assistance. AI-generated references must be verified.
  • Data and figures. Generative AI must not be used to create or alter research data, measurements, or experimental images. AI used as part of the research method (for example, a machine-learning model) must be fully described so that results can be reproduced.

For Reviewers and Editors

  • Manuscripts under review are confidential and must not be uploaded to generative AI tools.
  • Review reports and editorial decisions must reflect the reviewer's or editor's own evaluation.

Non-Compliance

Undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI is handled under the journal's Publication Ethics Statement and may lead to rejection, correction, or retraction.
